Why Is Nutrition Important For Performance?
Did you know that food can have an impact on your performance at the gym? Food really is the fuel for the body, so eating the proper food at the proper time can help you improve the intensity of your workouts. Without the proper amount of fuel, it is very difficult to perform at high intensities. Think about working out when hungry…it’s tough!
Food gives you the energy to be able to perform at your best. But some foods are better than others. When thinking about fueling a workout, it is best to focus on carbohydrates as this is the preferred energy source of the body. We are very good and efficient at utilizing carbs for activity. Carbohydrates are found in rice, bread, pasta, potatoes, and crackers.
There are two things to avoid leading up to any workout: fats and fiber. These two things are incredibly difficult to digest and can lead to GI complications. Everyone is different, so listen to your body. Experiment with different foods to see what you perform best with. My go it before a workout is honey because it is a quick, easily digestible fuel source.
